Our Story

WHO WE ARE

Vineyard of Hope is a community planted in 1991 as a Chinese immigrant Vineyard Church that passionately shares the gospel in our local community so that we might engage the world.

Although VOH started as a church reaching the growing Chinese community in LA and planting other Chinese churches around the globe, it has since said yes to God’s invitation in expanding that vision to reach a multiethnic, multigenerational community.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to see the hope of Jesus multiplied in our church, our city and our world.

OUR VALUES

  • The Bible is the foundation upon which we build our lives and our church. The Scripture has absolute authority in our lives as believers.

The Bible tells the story of God’s hope for humanity and our part in that story*. Being consistently in the Word helps us to understand and experience hope in our life.

The base of our logo represents the foundational importance of being in the Word.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” - Colossians 3:16

  • The power of Holy Spirit is essential for living a naturally supernatural life and experiencing hope coming alive in us.

In the Vineyard, we pray, Come, Holy Spirit every day in order to welcome the Holy Spirit to do the work that only He can do in us and through us.

The dove in our logo represents the Holy Spirit in our lives.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” -Acts 1:8

  • We are in a world that is broken; when we are transformed, we’re experiencing the light of God’s hope breaking in a dark world.

The process of holistic transformation involves a personal, prayerful relationship with Jesus, the hearing and doing of the Word personally and in community, and growing in the knowledge of our faith every day. **

The transformation we live out is a testament to God’s hope at work in our lives.

The house in our logo represents a life pointing upwards to Jesus.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. - Romans 12:1-2

  • Our commitment to being missional comes from the overflow of God's hope and presence in our lives, which propels us outward to intentionally share this same hope with others in our lives, community, and beyond.

We want to see kingdom reality and hope impacting not only in our lives but the lives of those around us. We demonstrate practical and tangible expressions of God’s love through serving and blessing the marginalized and the vulnerable.

The arrow in our logo first comes in and then goes out, representing God’s outpouring into our lives and being shared with others.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20

Statement of Faith

The Bible is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. However, since the Bible is a diverse collection of narrative stories, poetry, law, and letters, it is helpful to summarize its teaching in a concise form that can be comprehended by both those deeply rooted in the Church and those who have little exposure to the Bible. This is the historical function of the ancient church creeds in the first 400 years of Christ-centered faith.

Every community of faith has two major obligations in regards to its faith, namely absolute faithfulness to the Word of God, and sensitivity to the world in which they live. This means that the Vineyard movement must express the historical, biblical, orthodox Christian beliefs that we hold in common with all Christians, and the particular doctrines that are our distinctive voice, in terms that are relevant to 21st century Christians.

Our Statement of Faith is based on the conviction that the kingdom of God is the central theological motif that gives definition to all that we believe. It is a “kingdom of God” centered theology. This statement is our best current understanding of the Bible from that kingdom perspective.
