You know I have come to discover that I am just a regular guy. Surprise, right? I have wonderful family, loving wife and great kids! Angel and I will be married 24 years next May. We have been together longer than apart. We are just a regular middle class family living day to day. I really love my life. I would say its GOOD!
But yet I have this feeling within me that I am right around the corner from something new, special, or even different. I catch myself expecting something so often that I am getting frustrated or even angry that “something” has not happened yet. The bigger problem I have is that I have no idea what this “something” is?
All I can say is that I feel hope – real hope within me. I know this hope is rooted in Jesus. So I have strong convictions that this “something” is coming from Him… So I have a confession to make. Even though I am about to explode from expectation for this next “something” – I feel that I am the reason that my surprise is delayed. My inconsistency in my pursuit of Jesus has hurt my ability to receive what God is waiting to give me.
Sean Smith in his book “I Am Your Sign” writes, “You are meant for signs and wonders. Your destiny includes the invasion of the impossible – emptying wheelchairs, banishing cancer, and opening deaf ears. Miracles are ready to be released through you in the market place. But before the miraculous move makes a comeback, personal holiness must make one.”
Personal Holiness? I don’t know about you but when I read this – it hit straight to my heart. God wants to change us first before He uses us to change the world around us. Before He releases His power through us, we have to relinquish our hearts and will. Frustration is often felt when our experiences aren’t living up to our expectations. My experiences are falling short because my time has once again become “my time”.
I think we all get too busy with life that we forget the real keys to unlocking the kingdom and seeing God do greater things than we are currently expecting. These keys are revelation, relinquishing, and risk-taking.
We need a new revelation of the Father and to allow our spiritual houses to be swept clean. Open to be filled anew, for the new “something” God wants to do.
We need to relinquish our hearts and wills. Allowing our lives to become free from the fear of people and circumstances – Free to be Jesus’. Sean Smith writes, “Relinquishing looks scary, and definitely requires overriding control issues that we innately possess, but it always proves to be explosive.”
Finally, taking the risk. Many times, the Holy Spirit will limit His power to as much as we’re willing to risk through faith. In the Vineyard Community Church we spell faith … RISK. God is inviting us to do impossible things! For in the impossible things, He is the only one to receive the glory.
Come, and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn us to pieces, but He will heal us; He has injured us, but He will bind up our wounds. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will restore us, that we may live in His presence (Hosea 6:1-2).
It is time to return to the Lord! So I can live in His presence! Amen!
